Prix d’Amérique, together with the Hambletonian, is the biggest race in the world. Normandy can lay claim to the title of best region in the world for trotter breeding. Most of the winners of this prestigious race were born, bred and trained in Normandy. 

How it all began !


The first trotting races came into being in Cherbourg in the Manche département in 1836, followed by Saint-Lô and Caen in Calvados. Its popularity has since continued to rise. Numerous racetracks, including those at Caen and Cabourg, thousands of breeders and broodmares make Normandy the leading trotting region in the world! Normandy is the only place for trotting enthusiasts to find themselves surrounded by the best skills and amenities.
 

Legendary Trotters

 
JAMIN
: twice winner of the Prix d’Amérique (1958/1959), is a star in the United States, after having won the 1st edition of the World Championships in 1959.

ROQUÉPINE: scooped three Prix d’Amérique, two Elitloppet (Sweden), two International Trot (USA)

UNE DE MAI: 74 wins, reigned supreme in world trotting in the early 70s. She beat all the cracks including Nevele Pride in 1969.

IDÉAL DU GAZEAU: won the Prix d’Amérique and Elitloppet (Sweden) twice and the International Trot (USA) three times.

OURASI: the only trotter in history to have won the Prix d'Amérique four times.
